Isaiah 26:3 "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
I don’t know about you, but my brain wakes up long before I get out of bed in the morning. Most mornings, I lay in bed thinking and praying for a while. This morning, the first thing on my mind was how wonderful my God is! What a sweet way to wake up.
I hate it when the first thoughts of the day are burdens, from yesterday. That kind of takes the fun out of "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
I think our first thoughts when waking, are extremely important. Before making lists for the day's tasks or asking God to do anything for me, my mind should first be stayed on Him. I looked up the word "stayed", and found these definitions of how our minds should be thinking concerning God.
Stayed: Lean upon, sustained, holden up, stand fast, lieth hard and rested.
When I read these descriptions it reminded me of things like, the railing we hold on to when walking up or down stairs, or the steering wheel of a car. It's something we need, to help keep us from falling or driving off into a ditch. Some times we can slip or swerve. You know that feeling that comes when you feel yourself getting ready to fall and you try and grab onto the nearest thing available, to keep from going all the way down? That’s how it is with our minds, when troubling, scary, or ungodly thoughts come to try to cause us to fall. Stand fast, lean upon God's Word and keep your mind stayed on Him. Fix your mind on Him. We have to do our part. God will never fail to do His.
Perfect peace is available to us any time and in any situation. Well... now that I think about it, every thought from dawn till dusk is extremely important.
"Finally, brethren,
whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest,
whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure.
whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be
any virtue , if there be any praise,
think on these things."
"My meditation of Him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the Lord."
